I love to see the inimitable Janet Ross getting some airtime. I wrote about Leaves from a Tuscan Kitchen in my master's thesis, but ended up going down a whole rabbit hole and reading Ross's memoir and a couple of biographies about her, because I just found her (and the whole "Italian Colony") so fascinating.

Really enjoyed this. I have always been intrigued by the British community in Florence. And so nice to stumble across Sir Henry Elliot here. I’m just off to spend a couple of days in an Edinburgh library reading up on his great uncle Hugh!

This is an excellent article on Janet Ross. It was wonderful how you depicted her vibrant life in Tuscany and her impact on the Anglo-Florentine community. You really brought her to life.

My heavens — what a story. Beautifully told. I wish it had a happier ending.

You know I love “the Queen Bee of Tuscany,” and you have done her justice here. What a lovely overview of a fascinating woman. I am curious to know more of Stufa—am thinking that perhaps I have seen a reference to her elsewhere…Thanks for doing such great work recovering talented women of the past. ❤️
