This is like lifting the paving slab of early 20th century morality and seeing all the little creatures scuttling about. What lives! Thank you Sarah - can’t wait for Part 2.
Oh, archives are full of gems! I spent a wonderful lunch hour reading through Noël Coward's letters. Just one box contained letters from Ian Fleming, Anthony Eden, the Queen Mother, a king, Sir John Gielgud, one of the Gabors.... It was fascinating!
And your discovery is just amazing. What a historical record of day-to- day in a certain milieu, but also the tragedy of family and the heart. Looking forward to the next part.
How extraordinary! I’m researching Adela Curtis a mystic, teacher of meditation and a healer. One of her followers in the WWI era was Mary Crawshay, nee Leslie, the wife of Robert T Crawshay jr, who was a son of Rose Mary and younger brother of Rose!
I have recently discovered what an amazing person Rose Mary was.
How wonderful to have discovered this. You can spend days in archives and come away empty handed. What a treat for you - and for us. Looking forward to the next thrilling instalment!
Wow - and we're only half way through! What a story! I would love to hear more about Rose Mary Crawshay as well as I've never heard of her and she sounds like a remarkable woman.
Fascinating. Can't wait for the second part. We always think of people in the deep past as prim and proper when they were not.

What a fantastic find. One should never underestimate the possibilities of ‘misc personal papers’!
Is this going to be a book? I enjoyed the one about the Macmillans.
I'm hoping so! All these women I'm writing about need a book!
Fascinating story…though every time I read about yet another entitled predatory man it fills me with incandescent rage. I’ve met too many of them.

So interesting Sarah and beautifully told. I can picture the children at home sticking their fingers in treacle.
