Fascinating. I didn’t know Dodgson paid to have ‘Alice’ published. I wonder if it would have been as popular without Tenniel’s exquisite illustrations.

I loved reading of this relationship and the publishing history! When I saw the title, I thought it would be a romance. Little did I suspect that the Alice was the little girl of Wonderland. ❤️

I found it super interesting that Dodgson (aka Carroll) bore most of the publishing costs himself though he was also working with a university press at the time. Makes me want to learn more about self-publishing history.
