I have had ‘The Good Companions’ sat waiting in my ‘to read’ pile for a while and this article provided the incentive for me to do it. Now I am doing so I see the parallels you refer to. Thank you :)

Interesting to hear about the parallels between the two books. I remember seeing the Gielgud/Matthews film on TV many years ago. I'll never forget the Dinky Do's!
