Can’t wait to read this, Kennington was very familiar to me when I lived in South London, my Dad worked for 30 years in Kennings Way and I used to work there in my school holidays. This was in the late 60s, there were still many of the old Victorian dwellings and gentrification had not really got that far, except in Dolphin Square. I shall be able to visualise the fictional Dulcimer Street and its neighbourhood.
So interesting! And that photo is amazing to see...
Such an interesting essay, thank you Sarah.
This is just so fascinating, thanks for this great piece.
Thank you for this Sarah, this is the sort of history I wish we had been taught at school. Much more relevant than Kings & Queens!
Great piece. That memorial and it's inscription is lovely.
Oh dear I just sent off my camera to be repaired there…
Lovely piece thanks Sarah!
Very smart , even in those days, with a smart pub. in the corner . Actually Georgian not Victorian. House prices around a couple of million.
I think I meant Cleaver Square!
I once visited someone with a house in Cleaver Square...it looked like the perfect place to live!
